Testimonials

I had the opportunity to work in Elliot Lake during February of 2017. The experience I had will continue to resonate throughout my medical endeavors as it established a unique learning skill set and sense of confidence I have yet to have replicated in at any other learning site. The staff at St. Joseph's General Hospital, and the Family Health Team were kind, supportive, and knowledgeable, while providing a fun learning environment, constantly challenging me to improve my skills, understanding, diagnostic approach, and treatment acumen. Lessons learned in Elliot Lake from the superb leaders in the community will be with me for the duration of my career. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to study under the guidance of preceptors in Elliot Lake, and would encourage any medical learner to take full advantage of any occasion that might allow them the same.

I spent one month in Elliot Lake during my second year of medical school, and found the teaching to be excellent. In particular, Elliot Lake designs the experience and expectations around simulating what senior years in medical school will look like, including exposure to surgery, ER, family medicine, and anesthesia, among others. They have excellent teachers who truly want to see you succeed as a physician and learner. Highly recommend Elliot Lake as a placement site for my colleagues.

Spent 4 weeks in Elliot Lake in 2016 for a placement requirement in 2nd year of medical school. The staff and nurses at the hospital were great to work with and the doctors made themselves available to teach whenever possible.  Dr. Chi showed great patience with us and taught us many concepts that are still extremely beneficial to me today. The family health organization also made my time there a great learning opportunity. This experience was amazing and has immensely contributed to my development on my way to becoming not only a competent clinician, but also as an approachable, empathetic, and well rounded person. I would recommend anyone seeking to improve their skills to consider a placement in Elliot Lake.
